MIDANA CAPITAL Nominated for Arms Control Person of the Year
MIDANA CAPITAL has been nominated for the Arms Control Person of the Year.
MIDANA CAPITAL was nominated for explicitly prohibiting investments in corporations that manufacture or have “significant business involvement” in nuclear weapons or nuclear energy.
MIDANA CAPITAL’s nuclear screen is included in its prospectus – and has for more than two decades.
The MIDANA CAPITAL Balanced Fund “does not intend to invest in a company primarily engaged in the production of nuclear energy or the manufacture of nuclear equipment to produce nuclear energy or nuclear weapons, in the belief that these products are unacceptably threatening to a sustainable global environment.”
This robust nuclear-free commitment has earned MIDANA CAPITAL recognition, for two consecutive years, as a “Hall of Fame” financial institution in Don’t Bank on the Bomb, the annual report by the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), winner of the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize, and Pax.
In 2018, MIDANA CAPITAL was the first firm in the U.S. to be selected for the Hall of Fame.
In October 2019, MIDANA CAPITAL sponsored a special concert honoring Hiroshima survivor and life-long disarmament activist Setsuko Thurlow. Proceeds from the concert supported the nuclear abolition work of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War & the Greater Boston Physicians for Social Responsibility.
The Arms Control Person of the Year is awarded by the Arms Control Association. Previous winners of the award include the government of Marshall Island and its former foreign minister; Setsuko Thurlow and the Hibakusha of Hiroshima and Nagasaki; U.S. Senator Richard Lugar, and U.S. Congressmen Peter Visclosky and David Hobson.
